Paltridge Carbon Project 2

Project Information:
Paltridge Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Tatiara region of South Australia, approximately 30 kilometers west of Bordertown. Registered in August 2022, the project covers a 395-hectare area within the Limestone Coast region. The land in this district is historically utilized for mixed farming, balancing broadacre cropping of cereals and pulses with sheep and cattle grazing.
The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology. This method allows landholders to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by measuring increases in soil carbon stocks relative to a baseline. To achieve this, the project has implemented a suite of land management activities designed to boost soil health. These include altering stocking rates and grazing intensity to improve vegetation cover, applying specific nutrients to address soil deficiencies, retaining stubble after harvest to protect topsoil, and converting from intensive tillage to reduced or no-till farming practices.
Environmentally, the project sits within a semi-arid to Mediterranean climate zone, typically receiving between 450mm and 500mm of rainfall annually, predominantly in winter. The local terrain is characterized by the flat to gently undulating plains of the Tatiara district, where soils are commonly sandy loams or hard-setting loams over clay subsoils, often underlain by the region's signature limestone geology.
An interesting aspect of this operation is its scale; it appears to be part of a larger aggregation of projects managed by the same stakeholders, with Paltridge Carbon Project 3 and 4 also appearing in the registry. The project is developed by Agriprove, a leading Australian soil carbon developer known for using digital technologies to streamline the measurement and reporting of soil carbon credits.
