Hodgman Carbon Project

Project Information:

The Hodgman Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Mount Lofty Ranges of South Australia, approximately 45km south-southeast of Adelaide. Registered in October 2022, the project covers a project area of roughly 109 hectares. The site is situated near the locality of Bull Creek, nestled between the towns of Meadows and Strathalbyn within the Fleurieu Peninsula region.

This region is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with relatively high rainfall, making it well-suited for pasture-based agriculture. The landscape typically features rolling hills with soils that are often acidic sandy loams or ironstone soils over clay subsoils. Historically, land use in this area has been dominated by grazing livestock, particularly beef cattle and sheep, as the topography often limits intensive broadacre cropping.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration methodology. This method awards carbon credits for increasing the amount of carbon stored in the soil through changes in land management. Specific activities for the Hodgman Carbon Project include applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, a practice designed to boost pasture growth and subsequently increase the organic matter returned to the soil. As the proponent, Agriprove Solutions aids in managing the project's compliance, measurement, and reporting obligations.
