Howard Carbon Project

Project Information:
Howard Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located in the Hinchinbrook Shire, approximately 10km south of Ingham in North Queensland. Registered in June 2022, the project covers a land area of roughly 267 hectares. The region is well-known for its high productivity, predominantly supporting sugar cane cultivation and cattle grazing operations.
This project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits landholders for sequestering carbon in agricultural soils. To achieve this, the project involves altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing to improve soil vegetation cover and overall soil health. As a high-rainfall zone, the area typically receives over 1,300mm of rain annually, and the landscape is characterized by fertile alluvial and clay soils common to the Herbert River district.
The project is managed by Agriprove, a prominent soil carbon project developer in Australia. Under the soil carbon method, the proponent must conduct baseline soil sampling to measure initial carbon stocks. Credits (ACCUs) are subsequently issued based on measured increases in soil carbon levels over time, driven by the implementation of new management activities such as optimized grazing strategies.
