Greenwood Carbon Project

Project Information:
Greenwood Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located near Tintaldra in the Upper Murray region of Victoria, approximately 15km north of the township of Corryong. Registered in June 2023, the project covers 88 hectares of agricultural land within the Towong Shire.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which requires the proponent to measure soil organic carbon levels and use modelling to estimate sequestration over time. To generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), the land manager must implement new activities designed to increase carbon stocks, such as altering stocking rates, improving fertilizer application, or rejuvenating pastures.
The Upper Murray region is renowned for its reliable rainfall and productive grazing land, primarily supporting beef and dairy cattle operations. The area typically experiences a temperate climate with an annual rainfall of approximately 775mm. Soils in the river valleys near Tintaldra are often fertile alluvial loams or sandy loams, which are generally well-suited to soil carbon sequestration efforts due to their capacity to support vigorous pasture growth when managed effectively.
This project is managed by Agriprove, a prominent developer in the Australian soil carbon sector. The relatively small project area of 88 hectares suggests it may be a pilot block or a specific high-productivity paddock within a larger aggregation, aimed at demonstrating the viability of carbon farming in high-rainfall grazing systems.
