Paroo Station Aggregation
ERF173314
Project Information:
Paroo Station Aggregation is a Human-Induced Regeneration project located in the Central Darling Shire in outback New South Wales, roughly 65km southwest of White Cliffs. It was registered in March 2022 and originally covered 306,762.37 ha.
Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) projects involve establishing permanent native forests on land that was previously cleared of vegetation and where regrowth has been suppressed for at least 10 years. The proponent achieves this by actively managing the timing and extent of livestock grazing, which protects the land and allows native forests to regenerate naturally from in-situ seed sources, rootstock, and lignotubers.
The Central Darling area is known for its large-scale pastoral stations and historical sheep and cattle grazing operations. The outback environment is semi-arid with very low annual rainfall and is highly susceptible to drought conditions. Soils across this region generally consist of red earths, silty clays, and sandy loams.
This project is operated by AI Carbon Projects No 3 Pty Ltd and has a nominated permanence period of 25 years. In April 2022, the project secured a carbon abatement contract with the Clean Energy Regulator for the optional delivery of 1,242,589 Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) over a 10-year period. By June 2026, the project had been issued 100,726 ACCUs. In September 2024, a variation to the project area was processed, resulting in certain areas being removed from the original boundary.
