Weinteriga Station

Project Information:

Weinteriga Station is a Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) carbon project located in the Far West region of New South Wales, situated along the Darling River approximately 50km northeast of Menindee and 100km southwest of Wilcannia. Registered in March 2022, the project covers a significant area of 35,016 hectares within the Central Darling Shire. The station is a historic pastoral property traditionally used for rangeland grazing of sheep and cattle, typical of the remote western plains.

The project operates under the Human-Induced Regeneration methodology, which involves changes in land management to facilitate the regrowth of native forest on land where vegetation has been suppressed for at least 10 years. In this specific context, the project activities focus on managing the timing and extent of livestock grazing to reduce pressure on young trees, allowing native species such as Mulga, Coolabah, and Emu Bush to regenerate from in-situ seed sources and rootstock. The goal is to achieve permanent even-aged native forest cover.

Environmentally, the region is characterized by a semi-arid to arid climate with low, variable rainfall. The landscape features the riverine plains of the Darling River, consisting of heavy alluvial clay soils near the watercourses and red sandy loams or calcareous soils extending into the surrounding rangelands. The project is managed by AI Carbon Projects No 3 Pty Ltd, a special purpose vehicle of Australian Integrated Carbon (AI Carbon), a well-known developer in the Australian carbon market that partners with landholders to commercialize environmental improvements.
