Blackwood Biodiversity and Carbon Project

Project Information:
Blackwood Biodiversity and Carbon Project is an environmental planting project located in the Southern Grampians region of southwestern Victoria, approximately 30km southeast of Hamilton. It was registered in May 2022 and covers 2,423.05 hectares.
Environmental planting projects involve planting a mix of native trees and shrubs on land that has been previously cleared. To meet standard methodology requirements, these projects generally establish species native to the local area at a density of at least 200 stems per hectare. This ensures the plantings have the potential to achieve a mature forest environment with a height of at least two meters and 20% crown cover.
The Southern Grampians area is widely known for its agricultural operations, particularly livestock farming, fine merino wool production, and broadacre cropping. The region is classified as having a temperate climate with reliable, moderate-to-high rainfall. Soils in this area vary considerably, typically consisting of volcanic basalts, clay loams, and deep sandy podzols.
This project establishes permanent plantings of local native species on land that was predominantly used for agriculture for at least five years before the project's commencement. In November 2025, the project updated its methodology to the newer 2024 FullCAM determination, and in April 2026, additional land was added to the project area. The project proponent, DPC Administration Pty Ltd, is corporately linked to the Dunkeld Pastoral Company, a major historic agricultural and conservation enterprise in the region.
