Project Information:

Swanvale Regeneration Project is a large-scale Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) project located in the Barcoo Shire of Central West Queensland, approximately 160 kilometers southwest of Longreach and north of Jundah. Registered in May 2022, the project encompasses a massive area of nearly 63,800 hectares. The region is deeply integrated into the "Channel Country," an area renowned for cattle and sheep grazing, which serves as the primary land use for the surrounding properties.

The project operates under the Human-Induced Regeneration methodology, which credits landholders for regenerating native forests on land where vegetation had previously been suppressed for at least ten years. The core activity involves managing the timing and extent of livestock grazing to reduce pressure on young regrowth. By installing infrastructure such as fencing or water points to control animal movements, the proponent allows in-situ seed sources, such as rootstock and lignotubers, to regenerate into permanent even-aged native forests.

Environmentally, the site sits within a semi-arid zone characterized by hot summers and variable, summer-dominant rainfall. The landscape typically features a mix of Mitchell grass downs on cracking clay soils and Mulga woodlands on red earth ridges. The project is managed by Central West Livestock Pty Ltd (acting as trustee for the Magoffin Family Trust) in partnership with carbon service provider Climate Friendly. notably, the project has secured an optional delivery contract with the Australian Government for over 160,000 Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), indicating a significant commitment to long-term abatement.
