McEwan Carbon Project 2

Project Information:
McEwan Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon project located in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia, approximately 25km northwest of Pinnaroo. It was registered in April 2022 and covers 672.14 hectares.
Soil carbon projects under the 2021 Measurement and Models methodology involve implementing new or materially different agricultural management practices to increase the amount of carbon stored within the soil profile. These projects require rigorous baseline testing of soil carbon levels prior to implementation, followed by subsequent measurements and modeling to accurately verify the carbon sequestered over time.
The Murray Mallee area is primarily known for dryland cropping, such as wheat and barley, alongside sheep grazing. The region experiences a semi-arid climate with low annual rainfall. Soils in this area are typically characterized by sandy topsoils, sandy loams, and calcareous earths.
This project aims to increase carbon in the agricultural soil system by introducing several key management activities. These include applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to the land to address material nutrient deficiencies, converting from intensive tillage to reduced or no-tillage practices, and retaining crop stubble after a crop is harvested.
Additionally, the project is managed by AgriProve Solutions Pty Ltd, a major developer in the Australian soil carbon market. The project appears to be part of a larger aggregation or multi-property initiative, as public registry data indicates it is registered alongside several other identically named projects in the immediate series, ranging from McEwan Carbon Project 1 through 6.
