Morrison Carbon Project 7

Project Information:

Morrison Carbon Project 7 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 5km northwest of the town of Goomalling in the Central Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. Registered in April 2022, the project covers a specific area of 127.75 hectares within a larger agricultural enterprise.

The Goomalling region is heavily utilised for broadacre mixed farming, primarily consisting of cereal cropping (wheat, barley, lupins) and sheep grazing. The area experiences a Mediterranean climate with a semi-arid rainfall classification, receiving an average of approximately 370mm annually, mostly during winter. The local terrain typically features sandplain formations and duplex soils (sand over clay), which are common in the Western Australian Wheatbelt and are the focus of soil health improvement strategies under this project.

Operating under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, this project aims to increase soil organic carbon levels through regenerative land management activities. These activities include re-establishing pastures with multi-species cropping to improve biodiversity and altering grazing intensity to maintain vegetative cover. The project is part of a broader collaboration between the proponent, AgriProve, and local landholder Ian Clarke. Notably, the wider Morrison Carbon Project was the first soil carbon project in Western Australia to be issued Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), demonstrating the viability of carbon farming in this low-rainfall environment.
