Morrison Carbon Project 7

Project Information:

Morrison Carbon Project 7 is a soil carbon project located approximately 5km west of Goomalling in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, roughly 130km northeast of Perth. It was registered in April 2022 and covers a project area of 127.75ha.

Soil carbon projects registered under the Measurement and Models methodology involve accurately assessing soil carbon levels, typically through rigorous baseline soil core sampling, and tracking sequestration over time. To generate credits, proponents must implement new or materially altered agricultural management activities designed to actively build organic carbon in the soil compared to a historical baseline.

The Goomalling area is heavily entrenched in broadacre agriculture, specifically known for dryland wheat and cereal cropping, as well as sheep grazing operations. The region experiences a semi-arid, Mediterranean climate with relatively low annual rainfall averaging around 360mm to 400mm. Soils in this central part of the Western Australian Wheatbelt generally consist of sandy loams, duplex soils (sand over clay), and lateritic profiles.

This project was set up to increase organic carbon in the soil of an active agricultural system by re-establishing and rejuvenating local pasture through seeding and pasture cropping. It also involves altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of livestock grazing to promote soil vegetation cover and improve overall soil health. Developed by prominent soil carbon developer Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, the project has already seen successful sequestration results, generating 1,495 Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) to date.
