Morrison Carbon Project 4 (Revoked)
ERF172201
Project Information:
Morrison Carbon Project 4 (Revoked) was a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 5km northwest of Goomalling in the Western Australian Wheatbelt. Registered in April 2022, the project covered a relatively small area of 154.59 hectares on land traditionally used for mixed cropping and grazing. The project was managed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent soil carbon project developer in Australia, but was voluntarily revoked in September 2025.
The project operated under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits increases in soil organic carbon stocks resulting from new management activities. Specifically, this project aimed to build soil carbon by re-establishing pastures through seeding or pasture cropping and altering grazing intensity to improve vegetation cover. The naming convention "Project 4" suggests it may have been part of a larger aggregation of projects on a single property or a series of associated landholdings in the district.
The Goomalling region is characterized by a semi-arid Mediterranean climate with an annual rainfall of approximately 350mm, occurring mostly in winter. The local landscape typically features sandy loams, red-brown earths, and duplex soils (sand over clay), which are common in the Avon Valley. These soils can be productive but often face challenges such as acidity or salinity, making soil health improvements, like those proposed in this project, vital for long-term resilience. The revocation under Section 30 of the CFI Rule indicates a voluntary withdrawal, which often occurs if baseline testing reveals the project is not economically viable or if land management priorities change.
