Wright Carbon Project 6

Project Information:

Wright Carbon Project 6 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Meander Valley region of northern Tasmania, approximately 5 kilometers from the town of Westbury and 35 kilometers west of the major city of Launceston. Registered in October 2022, the project covers a project area of roughly 90 hectares.

The Meander Valley is widely recognized as one of Tasmania's premier agricultural districts. The region is characterized by a mix of dairy farming, livestock grazing, and intensive cropping, including poppies and vegetables. The area typically experiences a cool temperate climate with reliable rainfall, averaging between 700mm and 800mm annually. The local soil profile is often variable, ranging from fertile volcanic clay loams (ferrosols) to sandy loams derived from Tertiary sediments, both of which are responsive to pasture improvement techniques.

Operated under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, this project aims to increase Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks through specific land management changes. Unlike tree-planting projects, this methodology focuses on the existing agricultural system. The proponent, Agriprove, creates credits by measuring the increase in soil carbon over time compared to a baseline. For this specific property, the registered activities include re-establishing pasture through seeding or pasture cropping and altering grazing intensity, strategies designed to boost root mass and soil health, thereby sequestering more carbon.
