Wright Carbon Project 3

Project Information:
Wright Carbon Project 3 is a soil carbon project located approximately 5km northwest of Carrick and 20km southwest of Launceston in the Meander Valley region of Tasmania. Registered in October 2022, the project covers a project area of roughly 151 hectares. The surrounding region is renowned for its prime agricultural land, predominantly utilized for intensive grazing, dairy, and cropping operations.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits increases in soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks. To generate credits, the proponent must demonstrate a measurable increase in soil carbon compared to a baseline, achieved through new management activities. For this specific project, the activities involve re-establishing or rejuvenating pastures via seeding and altering grazing mechanics, such as changing stocking rates or intensity, to promote better vegetation cover and soil health.
Environmentally, the Meander Valley is characterized by a cool temperate climate with reliable rainfall, averaging around 800mm to 900mm annually, which supports vigorous pasture growth. The soils in this vicinity are typically fertile, often consisting of Dermosols or Ferrosols (red basalt soils), which are highly responsive to the regenerative grazing practices employed by the project proponent, Agriprove. This project appears to be part of a broader cluster of Agriprove-managed sites in the region; the company manages a known "Producer Demonstration Site" in Carrick in partnership with Meat & Livestock Australia, highlighting the area's strategic importance for soil carbon research and commercialization.
