Scott Carbon Project 6
ERF170561
Project Information:
Scott Carbon Project 6 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Upper South East region of South Australia, situated approximately 30 kilometers north of Naracoorte and 40 kilometers south of Bordertown. The project is positioned near the small locality of Frances, close to the Victorian border. Registered on March 25, 2022, the project covers a land area of 72.44 hectares.
The region is part of the Limestone Coast, an area heavily utilized for mixed farming, including sheep and cattle grazing as well as cropping. The environment in this corridor is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with a medium rainfall classification, typically receiving between 450mm and 550mm annually. The soils in this vicinity are generally sandy loams over clay or terra rossa soils, which are typical of the limestone-based geology found in the district.
Operating under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021, the project aims to build soil carbon stocks through improved land management. Specifically, the project activities involve applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material nutrient deficiencies in the soil. By correcting these deficiencies, the project seeks to boost pasture growth and root biomass, thereby increasing the rate at which organic carbon is sequestered into the soil profile. The proponent, Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, is a prominent developer in this sector, and this project appears to be part of a larger aggregation of projects (indicated by the sequential numbering "6") likely managed by the same landholder or family entity.
