Zeebra Plains Soil Carbon Project
ERF170478
Project Information:
Zeebra Plains Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located at Gungaloon, approximately 40km west of Maryborough in the Wide Bay-Burnett region of Queensland. Registered in May 2022, the project covers roughly 118 hectares of the larger 750-hectare "Zeebra Plains" cattle property. The region is characterized by a subtropical climate and supports extensive grazing and forestry land uses.
The project operates under the 2018 Soil Carbon methodology, which requires landholders to implement new farming activities, such as altering stocking rates, pasture rejuvenation, or rotational grazing, to increase soil organic carbon levels. These increases are measured through physical soil sampling against a baseline.
This project is part of a broader sustainability initiative by proponents Christophe and Sylvie Bur, first-generation farmers originally from France. In addition to this soil carbon project, the property hosts an Avoided Clearing project funded by the Queensland Land Restoration Fund (LRF) and maintains an Accounting for Nature Koala Habitat account. The owners aim to produce carbon-neutral beef and have integrated rotational grazing and biodiversity protection into their commercial breeding operation.
