Howson Carbon Project 7

Project Information:
Howson Carbon Project 7 is a soil carbon project located in the Banana Shire of Central Queensland, approximately 120km southwest of Gladstone. It was registered in March 2022 and covers an area of 256.35 hectares.
Soil carbon projects under the Measurement and Models methodology involve storing carbon in agricultural soils by implementing new land management practices and physically measuring the carbon increases over time. This specific project builds soil carbon by re-establishing and rejuvenating pasture through seeding and pasture cropping. It also involves altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing to promote soil vegetation cover and improve overall soil health.
The Banana Shire and broader Dawson Valley region are renowned for their highly productive agricultural land, which is widely used for intensive beef cattle grazing, dryland cropping, and coal mining. The environment is characterized by good annual rainfall and features a variety of fertile soil types, including rich clays and brigalow soils, which are ideal for sustained pasture growth.
This project is managed by AgriProve, a major Australian soil carbon developer. Notably, Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) generated from this project have already been successfully issued, and public offset records show that credits from Howson Carbon Project 7 were purchased and retired by The Institution of Engineers Australia to meet their Climate Active carbon neutral certification goals.
