Anthony Carbon Project 2
ERF169051
Project Information:
Anthony Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 11 kilometres north of Bathurst in the Central Tablelands region of New South Wales. Registered in November 2021, the project covers a land area of roughly 336 hectares. The surrounding region is predominantly utilized for livestock grazing and agriculture, characterized by undulating terrain typical of the Tablelands.
The project operates under the 2018 Soil Carbon Methodology (Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems). This method requires landholders to implement new management activities designed to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. For this specific project, the primary activity involves altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing. This often implies a shift toward time-controlled or rotational grazing strategies that allow pastures to rest and recover, thereby promoting deeper root growth and greater soil organic carbon accumulation.
Environmentally, the Bathurst region typically falls within a temperate zone with an average annual rainfall of approximately 600mm to 650mm. The soil composition in this specific area north of Bathurst is often influenced by the local geology, commonly featuring Bathurst granites which result in acidic, sandy loam or red and yellow duplex soils. These soil types generally respond well to improved organic matter management, which helps boost water holding capacity and fertility.
The project is facilitated by Agriprove, a prominent corporate service provider in the Australian soil carbon sector. It appears to be one of multiple projects associated with the same operation, as an "Anthony Carbon Project 1" is also listed in the Clean Energy Regulator's records, suggesting a staged or multi-parcel approach to the landholder's carbon farming strategy.
