Forbes Carbon Project

Project Information:
Forbes Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located near Yinnar South in the Gippsland region of Victoria, approximately 20km south of the major town of Morwell. Registered in February 2022, the project covers a project area of approximately 190 hectares.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through changes in land management. Standard requirements for this methodology involve establishing a baseline of soil carbon through physical sampling, implementing new management activities to sequester more carbon, and undertaking subsequent sampling rounds to measure the increase over time.
The South Gippsland region is characterized by a high-rainfall climate and undulating terrain, traditionally supporting intensive grazing industries such as dairy and beef cattle. The local environment typically features fertile soil types, often including deep red clay loams (Ferrosols) or structured grey loams (Dermosols) common to the Strzelecki Ranges foothills.
This specific project aims to build soil carbon stocks by applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, re-establishing pastures via seeding, and altering grazing intensity to improve vegetation cover. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent service provider in the Australian soil carbon sector.
