Courtice Carbon Project 5

Project Information:
Courtice Carbon Project 5 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Tatiara District of South Australia, approximately 50km north of Bordertown and 40km east of Keith. Registered in November 2021, the project covers a project area of roughly 222 hectares. The location sits within the Upper South East region, an area traditionally known for mixed farming, including livestock grazing and cropping, often on sandy loam soils over clay which characterize the "90 Mile Desert" agricultural transition zone.
The project operates under the 2018 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits landholders for increasing the amount of organic carbon stored in their soil. To achieve this, the project activities include applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, re-establishing pastures via seeding, and altering grazing intensity or duration. These management changes are designed to improve plant growth and root biomass, thereby drawing more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil profile. As an Agriprove-managed project, it likely follows their model of using soil testing to establish a baseline before implementing these regenerative practices to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) over a 25-year permanence period.
