Courtice Carbon Project 4

Project Information:
Courtice Carbon Project 4 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Tatiara district of South Australia, approximately 50 kilometers north of Bordertown and near the border with Victoria. Registered in November 2021, the project covers 332.93 hectares of agricultural land. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, a prominent developer in the Australian carbon market known for its focus on soil carbon projects.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative-Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems) Methodology Determination 2018. This methodology credits increases in soil organic carbon achieved through changes in land management. Specific activities for this project include altering grazing intensity, applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, and rejuvenating pastures through seeding. By improving pasture health and soil nutrient levels, the project aims to sequester atmospheric carbon into the soil profile.
The Tatiara region acts as a transition zone between the wetter South East and the drier Mallee regions. The area typically experiences a Mediterranean climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 450mm. Soils in this vicinity are generally characterized as sandy loams or siliceous sands, often with clay subsoils, which are common in the "Mallee" landscape. The land use in the surrounding region is predominantly mixed farming, consisting of sheep and cattle grazing alongside cropping operations.
