Courtice Carbon Project 2

Project Information:
Courtice Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Tatiara region of South Australia, approximately 50km north of Bordertown and 60km south of Pinnaroo. Registered on November 1, 2021, the project covers roughly 182 hectares of agricultural land within the Tatiara District Council area. This region, often referred to as "Good Country" (the Indigenous meaning of Tatiara), is a significant mixed farming zone known for cereal cropping, livestock grazing, and lucerne seed production.
The project operates under the 2018 Soil Carbon methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks over a 25-year permanent period. To achieve this, the project employs activities such as altering grazing intensity (likely shifting to time-controlled or rotational grazing), applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to correct nutrient deficiencies, and re-establishing pastures on land previously used for cropping. These regenerative practices aim to boost plant growth and root biomass, which in turn draws more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil.
Environmental conditions in this part of the Upper South East typically feature a semi-arid to Mediterranean climate with an average annual rainfall between 400mm and 500mm. The landscape is generally flat to gently undulating, characterized by sandy loam soils over clay subsoils, which are well-suited to the project's focus on pasture improvement and deep-rooted species. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent soil carbon project developer in Australia.
