Lazzarini Carbon Project 4

Project Information:

Lazzarini Carbon Project 4 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, approximately 40km south-west of the town of Temora. The project was registered in September 2021 and covers an area of roughly 159 hectares. The surrounding region is widely recognized for mixed farming operations, primarily consisting of dryland cropping (such as wheat and canola) and sheep or cattle grazing.

The project operates under the 2018 Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems methodology. This high-integrity method requires the proponent to physically measure soil carbon levels through baseline and subsequent sampling rounds to quantify sequestration. To generate credits, the project must implement a "new or materially different" management activity; in this case, the project focuses on altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing to improve soil health and vegetation cover.

Environmentally, the Temora region typically experiences a temperate climate with a mean annual rainfall of approximately 525mm. The local soil profiles are often characterized as red-brown earths or Sodosols, duplex soils with a sandy or loamy topsoil overlying a clay subsoil. These soils can be productive but are susceptible to structure decline, making them ideal candidates for soil carbon projects that aim to restore organic matter and improve water retention. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent developer in the Australian soil carbon sector, and appears to be part of a larger aggregation of projects (Lazzarini 1, 2, and 3) in the same vicinity.
