Wright Pastoral Soil Carbon Project

Project Information:

The Wright Pastoral Soil Carbon Project is an agricultural soil carbon sequestration project located across two distinct grazing aggregations in eastern New South Wales. Registered in March 2023, the project covers a total area of approximately 4,487 hectares. The project area comprises two main operational hubs: the "Ebor Aggregation" situated near the town of Ebor (roughly 80km east of Armidale) on the New England Tablelands, and the "Brookvale" property located at Koreelah, near the Queensland border and the town of Woodenbong.

The project is operated by Wright Pastoral (NSW) Pty Ltd, a fifth-generation family farming business specializing in high-marbling Wagyu beef production. The land use in both regions is primarily intensive cattle grazing. The Ebor Aggregation is characterized by its high altitude (approx. 1,400m), cool climate, and rich red basalt soils, receiving high annual rainfall (1,200–1,500mm). The northern Brookvale property, situated in the Border Ranges region, features frontage to Koreelah Creek and supports similar high-productivity grazing on fertile soils typical of the volcanic border ranges.

Operating under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Measurement and Models), the project aims to sequester carbon by modifying land management practices. Specific activities include the application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address soil nutrient deficiencies and the rejuvenation of pastures through seeding. These interventions are designed to increase pasture biomass and root density, thereby driving higher rates of soil organic carbon storage while supporting the proponent's intensive rotational grazing systems.
