LANDARI WA Scott River

Project Information:
LANDARI WA Scott River is a plantation forestry project located in the Scott River catchment of Western Australia, approximately 35 kilometers east of Augusta and 40 kilometers south of Nannup. Registered in June 2021, the project covers 66.45 hectares of land within the Shire of Nannup. The region is a significant agricultural hub known for dairy farming, beef grazing, and extensive forestry operations, situated on the Scott Coastal Plain which is characterized by high winter rainfall and sandy, peat-rich soils that can be prone to waterlogging.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2017. Specifically, it involves the conversion of an existing short-rotation plantation forest into a long-rotation plantation. This process transitions trees originally intended for short-term harvest (typically for pulpwood or woodchips after 10–15 years) into a longer growth cycle for sawlog production. By extending the harvest rotation, the trees grow larger and store carbon for a longer duration, generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) for the additional sequestration achieved compared to the baseline short-rotation scenario.
The project proponent is McIntyre Rural Pty Ltd, a company with local operational ties evidenced by service payments from the Shire of Nannup. They work in partnership with Landari Pty Ltd, a specialized forestry and carbon consultancy that acts as the project agent. Landari focuses on the traditional forestry sector and manages the technical compliance of the carbon project. Notably, the project has elected a 25-year permanence period, which reduces the number of credits issued by 20% but shortens the long-term obligation compared to the standard 100-year period.
