Evercreech Flame Robin 2021 Project

Project Information:
The Evercreech Flame Robin 2021 Project is a plantation forestry project located in North East Tasmania, specifically in the vicinity of the Evercreech Forest Reserve, approximately 20km north of Fingal and 80km east of Launceston. Registered in June 2021, the project covers roughly 288 hectares of timberland. While the primary location is near the titular Evercreech area, famous for its "White Knights," the world's tallest white gums, registered coordinates suggest the project area may also include coupes further west near the Mersey Valley. The region is a hub for commercial forestry and agriculture, characterized by rugged terrain and distinct valleys used for grazing and timber production.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative-Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2017. Specifically, it utilizes the "conversion from short-term to long-term rotation" activity. This involves transitioning plantation management from growing trees for short-cycle products like woodchips and pulp (harvested every 10–15 years) to long-cycle products like sawlogs and construction timber (harvested every 25+ years). By extending the growth period, the trees sequester carbon for a longer duration, and the resulting wood products store that carbon for decades, contrasting with the rapid release of carbon from short-lived paper products.
Environmentally, the Evercreech region benefits from the moderate to high rainfall typical of the North East Highlands, ranging from 800mm to over 1000mm annually, which supports the rapid growth of Eucalyptus species. The soils in this area are generally fertile, derived from a mix of metamorphic and volcanic geology, often manifesting as clay-loams that retain moisture well, a key factor in the area's history of producing record-breaking tree heights.
The project is widely understood to be managed by Forico, Tasmania's largest private forest manager, who acts as the agent for The Trust Company (Australia) Limited (the proponent). Forico is known for its "Natural Capital" reporting and sustainability initiatives. The inclusion of "Flame Robin" in the project name likely refers to a specific property identifier or a biodiversity asset, highlighting the dual focus on carbon sequestration and habitat maintenance for native bird species within the plantation estate.
