Evercreech Flame Robin 2021 Project

Project Information:

Evercreech Flame Robin 2021 Project is a plantation forestry project located across multiple forested sites in northern Tasmania, with parcels near Evercreech, approximately 90km east of Launceston, and the Deloraine area, about 50km south of Devonport. It was registered in June 2021 and covers an area of 287.99 hectares.

Plantation forestry projects of this type involve converting an existing short-rotation plantation forest, typically harvested every 10 to 15 years for pulpwood, into a long-rotation plantation forest. This standard methodology requires extending the harvest cycle to 25 years or more to produce long-lived commercial wood products, like sawlogs. This conversion significantly increases the long-term carbon storage in both the living forest biomass and the harvested wood products.

The surrounding regions in northern and north-eastern Tasmania are well known for their extensive forestry operations and diverse agricultural uses, including sheep grazing, fine wool production, dairying, and cropping. The environment across these sites is generally classified as a high-rainfall zone, though some inland valleys can be notably drier. Soil types are highly varied due to the complex geology, ranging from sandy organic loams and podzolic soils in the east to fertile, basalt-derived clay ferrosols in the north-west.

An interesting note about the Evercreech location is that it is adjacent to the Evercreech Forest Reserve, which protects the famous "White Knights". These towering white gums (Eucalyptus viminalis) are over 90 metres tall and rank among the tallest known flowering plants in the world. Additionally, the project's proponent, The Trust Company (Australia) Limited acting as the Trustee for the Tasmanian Forest Operating Sub Trust, has its forestry assets actively managed by Forico, which is Tasmania's largest private forest management company.
