White Carbon Project (Revoked)

Project Information:

The White Carbon Project (Revoked) was a soil carbon sequestration project located near the village of Rockley, approximately 35 kilometres south of Bathurst in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales. Registered in August 2021, the project spanned approximately 424 hectares in a region characterized by rolling hills and mixed agricultural use. The primary land use in the Rockley area is livestock grazing (sheep and cattle) supported by reliable rainfall, with some forestry and mixed cropping operations also present.

The project operated under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems) Methodology Determination 2018. This methodology requires landholders to implement new management activities, such as altering stocking rates, rotational grazing, or pasture improvement, to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. To earn credits, the proponent must measure baseline soil carbon levels and demonstrate an increase over time through subsequent sampling.

Environmentally, the site sits within a high rainfall zone, with the local area averaging between 630mm and 760mm annually. The soils in the Central Tablelands region are typically productive, often consisting of Dermosols and Chromosols (clay and loam types) derived from granite and basalt geologies, which are generally well-suited to soil carbon projects.

On November 20, 2024, the project was revoked under Section 30 of the CFI Rule. This section refers to a voluntary revocation, which typically occurs when a proponent decides not to proceed with the project, often due to land sales, business restructuring, or initial soil testing indicating that the sequestration potential was lower than anticipated. As the project was revoked, no Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) would remain issued for this specific registration.
