Ewing Carbon Project
ERF163673
Project Information:
The Ewing Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in Burramine South, approximately 15 kilometers west of the major town of Yarrawonga in Northern Victoria. Registered in January 2021, the project covers nearly 254 hectares of agricultural land within the productive Riverine Plains region. The area is characterised by mixed farming operations, where land use typically alternates between dryland cropping (cereals and oilseeds) and livestock grazing.
Operating under the 2018 Soil Carbon sequestration methodology, the project aims to increase soil organic carbon stocks through specific management interventions. The proponent, Agriprove Solutions, creates these increases by re-establishing or rejuvenating pastures via seeding and altering grazing intensity or duration. By optimising stocking rates and improving pasture composition, the project seeks to build carbon levels in the soil, which are measured against a baseline to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
The local environment in the Moira Shire region features a semi-arid to temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 450mm to 500mm. The soils in this part of the Murray Valley are typically red-brown earths, ranging from friable loams to clay loams, which are well-suited to the project's pasture improvement activities. The region is a known hub for agricultural trials, with the Riverine Plains farming group frequently conducting research on soil health and intercropping in the Burramine area.
