Project Information:

Rogers Livestock Pty Ltd is a soil carbon sequestration project located at "Karuah," a property in Wongwibinda, approximately 50km east of Guyra and Armidale in the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales. Registered in March 2021, the project covers 1,873 hectares of grazing land. The proponent, Rogers Livestock Pty Ltd, operates in the region known for its high-quality beef production, including Wagyu cattle and stockhorse breeding under names such as Gara River Wagyu.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon (Measurement and Models) methodology, having transitioned from the 2018 determination. This method requires the proponent to estimate soil organic carbon changes using physical measurements combined with modeled data. The specific activity undertaken for this project involves applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material soil deficiencies, thereby promoting better pasture growth and increasing carbon storage in the soil.

The Wongwibinda region is characterized by a cool temperate climate with relatively high rainfall compared to western areas of the Tablelands. The landscape features rolling hills with soils that are typically trap rock (sedimentary) or basalt derived, which are conducive to pasture improvement when managed effectively. The project aims to demonstrate how addressing nutrient deficits can simultaneously improve agricultural productivity and sequester carbon.
