Rogers Livestock Pty Ltd

Rogers Livestock Pty Ltd is a soil organic carbon sequestration project located in the Armidale region of the Northern Tablelands in New South Wales, spanning between 15km and 50km east of the city of Armidale. It was registered in March 2021 and originally covered 1,873.27 hectares, though a January 2026 variation removed some designated areas from the project boundaries.

Soil organic carbon sequestration projects operating under the 2021 Measurement and Models Methodology Determination aim to build carbon stored in agricultural soils by introducing new or materially different land management practices. The 2021 methodology specifically allows projects to combine direct physical soil measurements with computer-modelled estimates, reducing overall sampling costs compared to older methods.

The Northern Tablelands region is widely known for its beef cattle and fine wool sheep grazing industries, alongside some minor cropping and timber processing operations. The area is classified as having relatively high rainfall, averaging 750mm to 1250mm annually with a summer dominance. Soils across this landscape generally consist of a mix of Chromosols (duplex soils), Ferrosols, and sandy Podosols.

To build soil carbon, this project focuses on applying nutrients to the land in the form of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address material deficiencies in the soil. Notably, the project transitioned from the older 2018 measurement-only methodology to the updated 2021 determination in December 2022 to take advantage of the more flexible measurement and models approach. The project is being developed in partnership with the major carbon service provider Climate Friendly Pty Ltd.
