Project Information:
Rogers Livestock Pty Ltd is a soil carbon project primarily located at the property "Karuah" in Wongwibinda, approximately 50km east of Guyra and northeast of Armidale in the New England region of New South Wales. Registered in March 2021, the project covers a total area of 1,873 hectares across the Northern Tablelands.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative-Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology allows landholders to earn carbon credits by modifying farming activities to increase soil organic carbon, measured through a hybrid approach of physical soil sampling and modelled estimates. Specifically, this project aims to sequester carbon by applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material nutrient deficiencies in the soil, boosting pasture productivity and root biomass.
The Wongwibinda and Ebor region is renowned for its high rainfall and cool temperate climate, which differentiates it from the drier western slopes. The landscape is dominated by grazing operations on undulating terrain, typically featuring granite and trap soils, with some areas of fertile basalt. Rogers Livestock utilises the land for beef cattle production, with market listings highlighting the property's "fertilised improved New England grazing" conditions used for backgrounding steers and heifers.
