Landari AKD-3 (Revoked)

Project Information:

Landari AKD-3 (Revoked) was a plantation forestry project located near the town of Simpson, approximately 20km north of the coastal town of Port Campbell and 20km south of Cobden in Victoria. The project was registered in February 2021 and covered a total area of 97 hectares.

The project operated under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2017. This methodology awards carbon credits for establishing new plantation forests or converting short-rotation plantations to long-rotation forests. Specifically, this project involved establishing a new plantation for the commercial harvest of wood products. The "AKD" in the project title refers to Associated Kiln Driers (AKD Softwoods), a major Australian timber processing company with significant operations in the nearby Colac Otway region. AKD manages over 9,000 hectares of Radiata Pine plantations in the area to supply their sawmills.

The Simpson area, part of the Heytesbury Settlement, is situated in a high-rainfall zone characterized by dissected plains. The soils in this region are typically fertile clay loams or sandy loams, supporting the district's primary land uses of dairy farming and forestry. On July 1, 2022, the project's registration was revoked under section 30 of the Carbon Farming Initiative Act 2011 following a restructure under section 57. This administrative change suggests the project area may have been transferred to a different proponent or consolidated into another registration rather than being terminated for non-compliance.
