Landari Gippsland 1

Project Information:

Landari Gippsland 1 is a commercial plantation forestry project located in the South Gippsland region of Victoria, approximately 20km south of Mirboo North and north of Foster. Registered on February 18, 2021, the project covers 69.24 hectares of land in an area traditionally known for dairy farming, grazing, and significant timber production. The project is situated within the foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges, a region characterized by its rolling green hills and forestry operations.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative-Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2017. This methodology incentivizes the establishment of new plantation forests on land that has not supported a plantation for at least seven years, or the conversion of short-rotation plantations to long-rotation ones. In this case, the project involves establishing a new plantation for commercial harvesting. Carbon credits (ACCUs) are generated based on the carbon sequestered in the growing trees, as well as the long-term storage of carbon in the harvested wood products (such as construction timber) after the trees are felled.

Environmentally, the South Gippsland region benefits from a cool temperate climate with reliable, high rainfall, often exceeding 900mm annually in the ranges, making it ideal for forestry. The soils in this specific area are typically derived from Cretaceous sediments, forming fertile, dark grey to brown clay loams or dermosols that support vigorous tree growth. The project proponent, Landari Pty Ltd, is a boutique carbon developer founded by experienced foresters, specializing in integrating carbon income with traditional timber production.
