Quick Carbon Project

Project Information:

Quick Carbon Project is an agricultural soil carbon project located in the Meander Valley region of Tasmania, west of Deloraine. It was registered in November 2020 and covers 174.61 hectares.

Soil carbon sequestration projects under the 2018 methodology involve directly measuring changes in soil carbon stocks over time in response to new or materially different land management practices. Standard requirements mandate rigorous, randomly allocated soil core sampling, typically at 0-30 cm depths and optionally deeper, across designated Carbon Estimation Areas (CEAs) to verify net soil organic carbon increases over the duration of the project.

The Meander Valley area is a geographically diverse agricultural catchment known for cattle and sheep grazing, as well as cropping and forestry. The region experiences a cool-temperate climate with average annual rainfall generally ranging between 800mm and 1200mm in the lower agricultural zones. Soils in this area vary widely but frequently consist of yellow podzolics on sandstones and mudstones, along with highly productive krasnozem soils on Tertiary basalt.

This project was set up to increase soil organic carbon by altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing. By strategically managing how livestock graze, the project helps sequester atmospheric carbon into the agricultural soil system while encouraging pasture recovery. The project is managed by the proponent Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd and is registered with a 25-year permanence period.
