Quick Carbon Project
ERF159257
Project Information:
The Quick Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration initiative located near Mole Creek, approximately 25km west of Deloraine in the Meander Valley region of Tasmania. Registered in November 2020, the project covers nearly 175 hectares of agricultural land. The project is situated in the shadow of the Great Western Tiers, a region renowned for its lush, green landscapes and productive agricultural history.
The Meander Valley is characterized by a cool-temperate climate with reliable, high rainfall, often exceeding 800mm annually. The region's soils are typically rich and fertile, featuring productive Ferrosols (red basalt soils) and clay-loams that support intensive grazing and cropping. Land use in the surrounding area is predominantly driven by livestock industries, including dairy and beef cattle, as well as poppy and vegetable cropping.
Operating under the 2018 Soil Carbon Methodology, the project aims to build soil organic carbon by modifying land management practices. Specifically, the project activities involve altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing. This approach, often paired with pasture renovation technologies promoted by the proponent AgriProve, is designed to increase root biomass and soil health, thereby sequestering atmospheric carbon into the soil profile.
