Playford Carbon Project

Project Information:

Playford Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Dorrigo Plateau region of New South Wales, approximately 25km west of the major township of Dorrigo. The project was registered in November 2020 and covers a substantial area of 496 hectares.

The project operates under the "Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems" methodology. This involves implementing new land management activities, specifically altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing, to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. By carefully managing how livestock graze, the project aims to stimulate plant growth and root development, which in turn draws more carbon from the atmosphere and locks it into the soil profile.

The Dorrigo Plateau is renowned for its high rainfall and fertile, red basalt-derived soils (Krasnozems), which are considered some of the most productive in Australia. These environmental conditions are ideal for soil carbon projects, as moisture and clay content are key drivers for successful carbon sequestration. The region is predominantly used for beef and dairy cattle grazing, consistent with the project's activities. The proponent, Agriprove Solutions, is a leading developer in this sector and typically supports landholders in transitioning to multi-species pastures and rotational grazing systems to maximise soil health and carbon yields.
