Westpork Pinjarra Biogas Project (Revoked)

Westpork Pinjarra Biogas Project is an animal effluent management project located in West Pinjarra, roughly 5km west of the Pinjarra town centre and 85km south of Perth in Western Australia. It was registered in January 2021 and operates at Westpork's Pinjarra Piggery site.

Animal effluent management projects involve collecting and combusting methane generated from animal waste at an emissions destruction treatment facility. This process safely destroys methane, preventing the potent greenhouse gas from freely entering the atmosphere.

The Pinjarra area on the Swan Coastal Plain is known for agriculture, intensive livestock farming, and nearby bauxite mining. The region experiences a Mediterranean climate with long, wet winters and short, hot summers. The soils in the Pinjarra Plain complex typically consist of sandy soils, alluvial loams, and sandy clays.

This project was established by Westpork Pty Ltd, which is the largest producer of finished pigs in Western Australia, managing around 20,000 sows and producing approximately 50% of the state's pork. Notably, this carbon project was officially revoked on 16 June 2026 under section 30 of the Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) Rule.
