Robinson Sunny Park Coonamble Project

Project Information:

The Robinson Sunny Park Coonamble Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 30 kilometres south-east of Coonamble in the central west plains of New South Wales. Registered in March 2020, the project spans 5,437 hectares of agricultural land. The operation is run by Adam Robinson Pty Ltd as the trustee for the Adam Robinson Family Trust, with carbon service provision facilitated by Climate Friendly Pty Ltd.

The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology. This framework allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by increasing soil carbon stocks through changes in land management. Originally registered under the 2018 measurement-based method, the project transitioned to the 2021 method in late 2022, which allows for a hybrid approach using both physical soil sampling and modelled estimates to calculate carbon abatement.

The Coonamble region is characterized by a semi-arid to temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 500mm, supporting a mix of broadacre cropping and grazing. The landscape typically features Vertosols (cracking clay soils) and Chromosols. The project's specific inclusion of gypsum application suggests the presence of sodic soils, where sodium accumulation can hinder water infiltration and root growth; gypsum is used to improve soil structure and stability. To drive carbon sequestration, the project employs activities such as altering grazing intensity to maintain vegetation cover and applying synthetic or non-synthetic nutrients to address soil deficiencies.

Notable administrative updates include a variation in August 2025 where specific areas were removed from the project boundary, refining the total eligible carbon estimation area.
