Project Information:

Improved Beef Herd Management 2020 Project is an aggregated agricultural project operating across extensive pastoral regions in Queensland and the Northern Territory. Registered in November 2019, the project covers a dispersed area rather than a single site, with designated operations identified in the Maranoa region near Roma (QLD) and the vast North West region extending from Mount Isa to Camooweal (QLD) near the Northern Territory border.

The project operates under the Beef Cattle Herd Management methodology, which focuses on reducing the emissions intensity of beef production. By changing herd management practices, such as reducing the average age of the herd, increasing the weight-to-age ratio, and culling unproductive animals, graziers can produce the same amount of meat with fewer methane emissions. This method allows for the aggregation of multiple herds, enabling Corporate Carbon Advisory Pty Ltd to manage the carbon abatement across various cattle stations under a single project identifier.

The environmental conditions across the project areas vary significantly due to the vast geographical spread. The Maranoa region around Roma typically experiences a semi-arid to subtropical climate with approximately 580mm of annual rainfall and productive clay-loam soils suitable for mixed grazing and cropping. In contrast, the North West regions near Mount Isa and Camooweal are characterized by a hot semi-arid climate with distinct wet and dry seasons, lower rainfall (approx. 400-450mm), and rugged terrain featuring red earth and cracking clay plains. These areas are predominantly used for extensive cattle grazing on native pastures.
