Project Information:

CNCF Biodiverse Sandalwood 2 (Revoked) is a plantation forestry project located in the Brookton local government area, situated east of Perth in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. It was registered in July 2019 and covers 47.49 hectares.

The project falls under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative-Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2017. Plantation forestry projects generate carbon abatement by establishing new plantation forests or converting existing short-rotation plantations to long-rotation ones. Standard requirements for this methodology involve maintaining the plantation for commercial harvest and using the FullCAM software to calculate and model carbon stocks across the forest's lifecycle. This specific project nominated a 25-year permanence period.

The Brookton region is predominantly used for agricultural purposes, particularly sheep grazing and the broadacre cropping of wheat and canola. The area is classified as a lower rainfall zone and typically features medium-textured soils, with some agricultural subsoils prone to compaction or acidity.

The project was established to sequester carbon by planting and maintaining a new forest for the commercial harvesting of wood products, specifically sandalwood. The proponent, Regenerate Australia Ltd, which operates under the legacy of the Carbon Neutral Charitable Fund (CNCF), has a history of undertaking biodiverse plantings and ecosystem restoration to generate voluntary carbon offsets. Notably, this project was officially revoked under section 30 of the CFI Rule on May 28, 2026.
