Fish Creek Carbon Project

Fish Creek Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located near the township of Fish Creek, approximately 169km southeast of Melbourne in the South Gippsland region of Victoria. It was registered in October 2018 and covers a project area of 56.03ha.

Soil carbon projects operating under the Sequestering Carbon in Soils in Grazing Systems methodology involve changing agricultural management practices to increase soil organic carbon. Standard requirements for this project type involve conducting rigorous baseline soil sampling to establish initial carbon levels, and subsequently undertaking new, eligible land management activities to build and measure carbon stocks over the project's crediting period.

The Fish Creek area is a highly productive agricultural zone known historically for dairy farming and beef cattle grazing. The region experiences a high rainfall climate, typically averaging around 847mm annually, and features rich, fertile soils such as ferrosols and dermosols (often characterized as rich loams and clay loams) that are excellent for pasture growth.

This project specifically aims to increase carbon in the soil of its grazing system by rejuvenating pastures. The on-ground project activities include managing grazing, managing pasture, and undertaking pasture cropping. Interestingly, in May 2025, the project proponent was varied from Corporate Carbon Solutions Pty Ltd to Agriprove Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd. Agriprove is a major Australian soil carbon project developer that originally spun out of Corporate Carbon to serve as a special purpose vehicle mainstreaming soil carbon farming.
