Fish Creek Carbon Project

Project Information:
Fish Creek Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the township of Fish Creek in South Gippsland, Victoria. Situated approximately 160km southeast of Melbourne and 15km west of Foster, the project operates within a region renowned for its lush, rolling hills and proximity to Wilsons Promontory. Registered in October 2018, the project covers a relatively small area of 56 hectares, which is typical for intensive grazing operations in this highly productive agricultural zone.
The South Gippsland region is characterized by a reliable high-rainfall climate, with Fish Creek averaging over 850mm annually. The local landscape is dominated by dairy and beef cattle farming, supported by fertile soils that are predominantly dark grey to brown clay loams. These environmental conditions, consistent moisture and heavy, nutrient-holding soils, are particularly conducive to building soil organic carbon, as they support vigorous pasture growth throughout much of the year.
This project operates under the Sequestering Carbon in Soils in Grazing Systems (2014) methodology. This framework requires landholders to implement new management activities designed to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil profile. For this specific project, activities include rejuvenating pastures and undertaking pasture cropping, alongside managing grazing intensity. By measuring soil carbon levels against a baseline over time, the project aims to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) for every tonne of additional carbon sequestered. The project proponent, Agriprove, is a prominent developer in this sector and recently updated the participant entity to "Agriprove Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd" in mid-2025.
