Project Information:
FPC 2018 CP1 is a plantation forestry project located in the Shire of Boyup Brook, in the South West region of Western Australia. It was registered in July 2018 and covers 2,549.66 ha.
Plantation forestry projects involve establishing new plantation forests or converting an existing short-rotation plantation into a long-rotation plantation. Standard requirements dictate that the forest must be managed to increase carbon stocks and consist of tree species specifically intended for the commercial harvesting of wood products.
The Boyup Brook area is well known for mixed farming, particularly sheep and cattle grazing, alongside significant regional forestry operations. The area typically experiences moderate to high winter-dominant rainfall, and the soils generally consist of lateritic gravels and sandy loams over a clay base.
This project sequesters carbon by transitioning an existing short-rotation plantation forest to a long-rotation forest to harvest commercial wood products. The project is managed by Western Australia's state-owned forestry enterprise, the Forest Products Commission. Originally established as the Maringee Plantation Forestry Project, it underwent a name change in September 2024 and officially transitioned to the updated 2022 methodology determination in July 2025. The project has also experienced variations in 2020 and 2023, where specific land areas were incrementally added and removed.
