2018 AGE CLASS - LIMESTONE PLANTATIONS

Project Information:
2018 AGE CLASS - LIMESTONE PLANTATIONS is a Plantation Forestry project located in the West Wimmera region of Victoria, approximately 50km northeast of Mount Gambier near the South Australian border. It was registered in May 2018 and currently covers an area of 1,252.57 hectares.
Plantation forestry projects that involve "conversion from short-term to long-term rotation" generate carbon credits by extending the growing period of an existing plantation forest before it is harvested. By transitioning a short-rotation forest (typically grown for pulpwood and harvested early) into a long-rotation forest (grown for sawlogs or solid wood products), the trees remain standing for significantly longer, which substantially increases the average amount of carbon sequestered and stored in the landscape.
The West Wimmera and the broader "Green Triangle" region are renowned for intensive commercial forestry, as well as sheep and cattle grazing and broadacre cropping. The region generally experiences a moderate-to-high rainfall Mediterranean climate. As the project's name implies, the area is characterised by highly porous soils consisting of sandy loams overlaying limestone bases, which provides ideal drainage for plantation species like radiata pine and blue gum.
This project is part of a broader, multi-year portfolio of carbon plantations managed by major forestry operator OneFortyOne Plantations Pty Ltd. Over the course of the project's life, there have been a few administrative variations: in May 2021, specific areas were removed from the initial project boundaries, and in May 2025, the participant name was formally varied from The Trust Company (PTAL) Limited (as trustee) directly to OneFortyOne Plantations Pty Ltd. The project also secured a Fixed Delivery Carbon Abatement Contract with the Clean Energy Regulator to supply Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
