Project Information:

2019 AGE CLASS, LIMESTONE PLANTATIONS is a Plantation Forestry project located in the West Wimmera region of Victoria, approximately 20km east of Penola near the South Australian border. It was registered on May 25, 2018, and covers a project area of 1,258.24 hectares.

Plantation forestry projects under the 2017 method generate carbon abatement by establishing new plantations, converting short-rotation plantations to long-rotation ones, or changing existing management practices. Standard requirements for converting a short-rotation plantation to a long-rotation plantation include providing evidence of a distinct change in management strategy. This typically involves extending the time trees remain in the ground to shift from smaller, short-term pulpwood harvests to larger, long-term sawlogs, thereby significantly increasing the long-term average carbon stock stored in the forest biomass. This specific project sequesters carbon precisely through this conversion to long-rotation for the commercial harvesting of wood products.

The surrounding West Wimmera and broader Green Triangle region is highly regarded for its extensive commercial softwood and hardwood forestry operations, alongside broadacre cropping and sheep grazing. The environmental conditions in this southern Wimmera area feature moderate to high rainfall for the region, typically averaging around 600mm annually. The landscape's soils are highly variable but are largely characterised by texture contrast (duplex) soils featuring sandy or loamy surfaces overlaying heavier, compacted clay subsoils, as well as sandy dunes scattered with seasonal wetlands.

The project is managed by OneFortyOne Plantations, a major forestry enterprise that oversees approximately 100,000 hectares of certified forest estate within the Green Triangle. While initially registered with The Trust Company (PTAL) Limited as trustee for ANZFOF2 Sub 1, the participant name was formally varied in May 2025 to ONEFORTYONE PLANTATIONS PTY LTD. Additionally, the project underwent an area variation in April 2021, where specific areas initially listed were removed from the project footprint.
