2019 AGE CLASS, LIMESTONE PLANTATIONS

Project Information:
2019 AGE CLASS, LIMESTONE PLANTATIONS is a Plantation Forestry project located in the West Wimmera region of Victoria, approximately 20km east of Penola near the South Australian border. It was registered in May 2018 and covers a project area of 1,258.24 hectares.
Plantation forestry projects generate carbon abatement by establishing new plantations, converting short-rotation plantations to long-rotation ones, or changing existing management practices to increase carbon storage. This specific project generates Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by converting an existing short-rotation plantation forest, typically harvested early for pulpwood or woodchips, into a long-rotation plantation forest. By extending the rotation length, the trees grow larger and are ultimately harvested for long-lived commercial wood products like sawlogs, keeping the sequestered carbon locked away for significantly longer periods.
The surrounding West Wimmera and broader Green Triangle region is highly regarded for its extensive commercial softwood and hardwood forestry operations, alongside broadacre cropping and sheep grazing. The environmental conditions in this southern part of the Wimmera feature moderate to high rainfall for the region, typically averaging around 600mm annually. The landscape's soils are highly variable but are largely characterised by texture contrast (duplex) soils featuring sandy or loamy surfaces overlaying heavier, compacted clay subsoils, as well as sandy dunes scattered with seasonal wetlands.
Over its lifetime, the project has undergone multiple administrative updates. In April 2021, a variation was registered to remove certain areas from the project boundary. Later, in May 2025, the participant name was officially transferred from The Trust Company (PTAL) Limited (as trustee for ANZFOF2 Sub 1) to the current proponent, ONEFORTYONE PLANTATIONS PTY LTD. OneFortyOne is a major trans-Tasman sustainable forest grower that has actively pursued comprehensive life-cycle carbon accounting across its assets and invests heavily in minimizing its carbon footprint, including sustainability initiatives to convert forestry waste (slash) into renewable biofuel.
