Project Information:

CO2 Australia - Human-Induced Regeneration Project - Stage 4 (Revoked) is a Human-Induced Regeneration project located northwest of Parkes in the Central West region of New South Wales. It was registered in November 2017 and covers a project area of 1.62 hectares. The broader Parkes Shire region is predominantly known for agricultural land uses, specifically cropping and livestock grazing operations.

Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) projects involve establishing permanent, even-aged native forests through assisted regeneration. According to the standard requirements of the methodology, this is achieved by changing land management practices to encourage the growth of native vegetation. For this project, the primary activity was the exclusion of livestock to allow in-situ seed sources, including rootstock and lignotubers, to regenerate on land where regrowth had previously been suppressed for at least 10 years.

The Central West environment surrounding the project area generally experiences a moderate rainfall classification, averaging approximately 608 mm annually. The local topography is characterized as flat to gently undulating, featuring heavy fertile soils, clay subsoils, and alluvium that are well-suited for the region's agricultural and pastoral activities.

Interestingly, this project covered a remarkably small area (1.62 ha) for a standard HIR project. The project was officially revoked on June 23, 2022, under section 30 of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Rule. Furthermore, a variation was recorded on the project registry in December 2024 to update the proponent's operating name from CO2 AUSTRALIA LIMITED to CO2 AUSTRALIA Pty Ltd.
