Glen Ailee/Oklahoma Aggregation, Induced Regeneration of a Permanent Even-Aged Native Forest Project
ERF111375
Project Information:
The Glen Ailee/Oklahoma Aggregation is a Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) carbon project located in the Bogan Shire Council region of New South Wales, approximately 45km northeast of Mount Hope and 100km northwest of Condobolin. Registered in April 2017, the project covers a relatively focused area of roughly 549 hectares. The region is traditionally characterized by rangeland grazing, particularly for merino sheep and cattle, and sits within the Darling Riverine Plains bioregion.
The project operates under the Human-Induced Regeneration methodology, which involves implementing land management changes to facilitate the regrowth of native forest on land where vegetation was previously suppressed. Key activities for this project include the cessation of mechanical clearing and the management of grazing pressure from livestock and feral animals to allow natural regeneration from in-situ seed sources. The local environment is semi-arid, typically receiving between 350mm and 400mm of rainfall annually, and features soils dominated by red chromosols and grey/brown vertosols (clays) common to the Cobar Peneplain.
Notably, this project has actively supplied Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) to the voluntary market. Public disclosure statements from Climate Active indicate that the agribusiness asset manager Kilter Rural purchased and retired ACCUs from the Glen Ailee Station Native Forest Protection Project to achieve carbon-neutral certification for their corporate operations. This highlights the project's role in supporting corporate sustainability goals beyond the compliance market.
