Project Information:

CO2 Australia - Human-Induced Regeneration Project - Stage 2 (Revoked) is a Human-Induced Regeneration project located in the Lachlan Shire roughly 8km from Tullamore and 45km north-east of Condobolin in central New South Wales. It was registered in March 2017 and covers 1.29ha.

Human-Induced Regeneration projects involve establishing permanent native forests through assisted regeneration on land where regrowth was previously suppressed for at least 10 years. Standard requirements include changing land management practices, such as the exclusion of livestock and managing feral animals, to allow native vegetation to recover and eventually reach full permanent forest cover.

The Lachlan Shire and broader central New South Wales region are well known for broadacre cropping (such as wheat) and sheep and cattle grazing. The area features a semi-arid climate with moderate rainfall, and the soils generally consist of red and brown earths, sandy loams, and clay loams.

This project was established to regenerate native forests from in-situ seed sources, including rootstock and lignotubers. It originally secured a carbon abatement contract with the Clean Energy Regulator in April 2017, but this contract lapsed and was terminated in October 2018. The project was subsequently revoked under section 30 of the CFI Rule in March 2021, and the participant's name was formally varied from CO2 Australia Limited to CO2 Australia Pty Ltd in late 2024.
