Project Information:
DAC-2016-03 is a Native Forest from Managed Regrowth project located approximately 60km northwest of Quilpie in Southwest Queensland. Registered in November 2016, the project covers 3,927 hectares of land within the Mulga Lands bioregion.
The project operates under the Native Forest from Managed Regrowth (NFMR) methodology. Unlike environmental planting, this method is designed for land that has been comprehensively cleared for pastoral use in the past. The project activity involves ceasing mechanical or chemical suppression (such as chaining or poisoning) to allow the native forest, typically Mulga (Acacia aneura) woodlands, to regenerate from in-situ seed sources like rootstock and lignotubers.
The region is characterized by a semi-arid climate with low, variable rainfall (approximately 300–400mm annually) and soils consisting largely of red earths and sandy loams. The primary land use in this area is extensive grazing for cattle and sheep.
The project proponent, Devine Agribusiness Carbon Pty Ltd (DAC), was founded by local agribusiness consultants to help Queensland graziers integrate carbon farming with pastoral operations. In 2021, DAC was acquired by GreenCollar, Australia’s largest environmental markets investor. This project relies on the Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM) to estimate the carbon sequestered by the regenerating native forest over its crediting period.
