New South Wales Farm Productivity Project (Revoked)

Project Information:

New South Wales Farm Productivity Project (Revoked) was a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 25km north-west of Parkes in the Central West region of New South Wales. Registered in March 2016, the project covered an area of 693.59 hectares. The region is situated within the state's wheat-sheep belt, an area characterized by mixed farming land use, primarily rotational cropping and livestock grazing.

The project operated under the Sequestering Carbon in Soils in Grazing Systems methodology (2014). This method requires landholders to implement new management activities, such as pasture rejuvenation or time-controlled grazing, designed to increase the amount of organic carbon stored in the soil. To generate credits, the project would have been required to measure baseline soil carbon levels and demonstrate a measurable increase over time through subsequent sampling.

The environment in the Parkes district is classified as semi-arid to temperate, typically receiving an annual rainfall of approximately 550mm to 600mm. The local soil landscape generally consists of red-brown earths and cracking clays (Vertosols), which are productive but can be susceptible to erosion if vegetation cover is not maintained.

On March 26, 2024, the project was voluntarily revoked under Section 30 of the CFI Rule. Revocations of this nature often occur when a project proponent decides not to proceed with the project, potentially due to the costs of measurement exceeding the value of credits generated, or a change in land ownership. As a revoked project, it is no longer active and did not complete its crediting period.
