Communications infrastructure energy efficiency upgrade (Revoked)

Project Information:

Communications infrastructure energy efficiency upgrade (Revoked) was an industrial energy efficiency project proposed by BAI Communications Pty Ltd. Registered in October 2016, the project was designed to operate on a "Nation Wide" basis rather than at a single geographic location. As the proponent is a major provider of shared communications infrastructure (such as broadcast towers and transmission sites), the project likely targeted energy-consuming equipment across their extensive Australian network.

The project utilized the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Industrial Electricity and Fuel Efficiency) Methodology Determination 2015. This methodology credits emissions reductions achieved by improving the energy efficiency of industrial equipment, such as upgrading lighting, heating, ventilation, cooling (HVAC) systems, or other machinery, thereby reducing the electricity or fuel required for operation. Specifically, this project aimed to modify, remove, or replace "other machines" to enhance electrical efficiency.

Given the project's focus on built infrastructure distributed across the country, traditional environmental metrics such as soil type and rainfall classification are not applicable. The project would have operated within the varied environmental conditions of BAI Communications' national site portfolio, ranging from urban centers to remote outback locations.

The project was voluntarily revoked under section 33 of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011 on August 9, 2017, less than a year after registration. Section 33 revocations occur when a proponent requests to end the project, provided no carbon credits have been issued. Accordingly, public records confirm that zero Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) were issued for this project.
