Communications infrastructure energy efficiency upgrade (Revoked)

ERF103340

Project Information:

Communications infrastructure energy efficiency upgrade is an energy efficiency project spanning nationwide infrastructure sites across Australia, without a single specific regional location. It was registered by BAI Communications Pty Ltd in October 2016 and covers an unknown geographic area.

Energy efficiency projects under the Industrial Electricity and Fuel Efficiency methodology involve modifying, removing, or replacing existing energy-consuming equipment. Standard requirements for these activities focus on proving the implementation of upgrades that reduce the electricity consumed by industrial machines, thereby lowering overall greenhouse gas emissions.

Because this project covers nationwide telecommunications and broadcasting infrastructure rather than a specific plot of rural land, there is no singular regional land use. Environmental conditions similarly vary widely across the covered locations, encompassing everything from semi-arid to high rainfall classifications, and resting upon a vast range of soil types across the continent such as clay, basalt, and sandy loam.

The project was specifically focused on improving electricity efficiency across "other machines" related to the proponent's broadcast network. It is notable that on August 9, 2017, the project was voluntarily revoked under section 33 of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011. This voluntary revocation officially ended its status as a registered offsets project just shortly after its planned crediting period began in May 2017.
