EA 1003 High Efficiency Refrigerated Cabinets (Revoked)
ERF103153
Project Information:
EA 1003 High Efficiency Refrigerated Cabinets (Revoked) was an energy efficiency project operating on a "Nation Wide" basis, rather than being tied to a specific property. Registered in May 2016 by Expert Abatement Pty Ltd, the project aimed to aggregate carbon abatement across multiple sites, specifically targeting supermarkets for the installation of upgraded equipment.
The project operated under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative-High Efficiency Commercial Appliances) Methodology Determination 2015. This methodology credits the reduction in electricity emissions achieved by installing high-efficiency commercial appliances, such as refrigerated display cabinets, compared to the standard baseline models typically used in the industry. By reducing electricity consumption, the project reduces the demand on the grid and the associated greenhouse gas emissions.
Unlike land-sector carbon projects, this initiative was situated entirely within the built environment. Consequently, standard environmental metrics such as soil type, rainfall classification, and agricultural land use are not applicable. The project was revoked in June 2022 under Section 32 of the CFI Rule, which typically indicates a voluntary revocation by the proponent. Interestingly, the methodology itself was flagged for potential revocation by the Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee later in 2022 due to low industry uptake.
