DAC-2015-22 (Revoked)

Project Information:

DAC-2015-22 (Revoked) was a native forest regeneration project located in the Mulga Lands of southwest Queensland. The project area, covering approximately 957 hectares, is situated roughly 35km north of the town of Bollon and 100km west of St George. This region is part of the Balonne Shire and is predominantly characterized by sheep and cattle grazing on large pastoral leases.

Registered in September 2015, the project operated under the Native Forest from Managed Regrowth (NFMR) methodology. Unlike "Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR)", which focuses on suppressing grazing, the NFMR method specifically credits the carbon sequestered by allowing trees to regrow on land that had previously been subjected to comprehensive mechanical or chemical clearing (such as chaining or bulldozing) for pastoral purposes. The project proponent, Devine Agribusiness Carbon Pty Ltd, managed a portfolio of over 30 similar projects in this region.

The environmental context of the site is typical of the semi-arid Mulga Lands, featuring red earth soils and sandy loams that support Acacia (Mulga) woodlands and native grasses. Rainfall in the Bollon area is variable, averaging around 450mm annually.

Notable aspects of this project include its revocation and contract history. The project held a carbon abatement contract (CAC189259) which lapsed or was terminated in 2018. Subsequently, the project was voluntarily revoked in August 2021 under section 30 of the CFI Rule. Section 30 allows proponents to voluntarily exit the scheme, often done when a project is deemed unviable or the landholder wishes to change land management strategies. The revocation implies that the carbon credits (ACCUs) associated with the project were either not issued or were relinquished, and the land is no longer bound by the permanence obligations of the scheme.
