Glengeera Forest Regeneration Project

ERF101545

Project Information:

Glengeera Forest Regeneration Project is a human-induced regeneration project located on the historical "Glengeera" property approximately 35km north-west of Bourke in NSW. It was registered in August 2015 and covers 19,334.86ha, following a September 2015 variation that removed some initial areas from the project.

Human-induced regeneration projects involve establishing permanent native forests by changing land management practices to allow native vegetation to regenerate, ultimately aiming for a canopy cover of at least 20%. For this project, this is achieved through assisted regeneration from in-situ seed sources (including rootstock and lignotubers) on land that was previously cleared of vegetation and where regrowth was suppressed for at least 10 years prior. Project activities focus on ceasing the mechanical or chemical destruction of regrowth and managing feral animals in a humane manner.

The Bourke area is known for outback agricultural operations, particularly broadacre sheep and cattle grazing, alongside irrigated cotton. The area is considered a semi-arid environment with low, highly variable rainfall averaging around 300mm annually. Soils in the region are generally red and grey loams, red earths, and hard claypans.

The project is run by Karbill Pty Ltd with Climate Friendly Pty Ltd acting as the project agent. Clean Energy Regulator records note that Enforceable Undertakings related to this project were accepted from associated agents, Climate Friendly Pty Ltd and Australian Carbon Traders Pty Ltd, between 2016 and 2018. The project holds active Carbon Abatement Contracts for the delivery of Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
