Tallawang Carbon Sequestration Project (Revoked)

Project Information:

The Tallawang Carbon Sequestration Project (Revoked) was a soil carbon project located at the 'Tallawang' property, approximately 40km southwest of Willow Tree in the Liverpool Plains region of New South Wales. Registered in October 2015, the project covered an area of 445.28 hectares. The project was revoked in August 2024 under Section 30 of the CFI Rule, which typically indicates a voluntary revocation by the proponent, often occurring when a project is restructured or discontinued before the permanence period commences.

The project operated under the "Sequestering Carbon in Soils in Grazing Systems" methodology. This method requires landholders to alter their land management practices, such as changing stocking rates, rejuvenating pastures, or managing nutrient inputs, to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. For this specific project, the primary activity was managing pasture to build soil carbon stocks, a practice that aims to improve soil health while generating carbon credits.

The Liverpool Plains region is renowned for its high-quality agricultural land, characterised by fertile black vertosol soils (cracking clays) on the plains and lighter chromosols or loams on the slopes. The area generally falls within a moderate rainfall zone (approximately 600-700mm annually), supporting extensive cattle grazing and cropping. The proponent, Wallarobba Cattle Company Pty Limited, is a registered Australian private company associated with cattle farming operations in the Willow Tree district.
